Karapiro Dam, the most downstream dam on the Waikato River.

The Karapiro Dam is the first of many dams on the North Island's Waikato River that are high enough to prevent upstream migration of juvenile native fish e.g. galaxiid young as whitebait (Galaxias spp.), and downstream migration of adults such as eels (Anguilla spp.)
