FROZEN NATIVE FISH FISH FOOD

Aquatic insects and other live prey can be collected when they are abundant e.g. from artificial ponds over summer. Aside from recently after a small flood or "fresh" has passed through, most New Zealand stream aquatic insects are abundant all-year around.

Hard-bodied insects such as mayfly and caddisfly larvae make some of the best frozen foods as they do not become mushy after freezing.
